Bahujan Hitaya Boys Hostel, Kolhapur
Enabling the most marginalized children to access quality education and prospects for a better future, plus other related objectives from SDGs, Indian Government policy and T.B.M.S.G. Policy
In 1992, Trailokya Bauddha Mahasangha Sahayak Gana Pune Charity started Bahujan Hitay Boys Hostel Kolhapur. This project aimed to support the most vulnerable and ignored communities. The hostel has served 1255 students aged between 10 to 17 in the Kolhapur district. These students come from marginalized backgrounds, including SC, ST, OBC, NT, VJNT communities, as well as those with disabilities. Many of them are from impoverish families or are orphans raised by single parents.
Considering the difficult circumstances these communities face, where even basic meals are a struggle, our hostel focuses on providing complete nourishment and opportunities for the students’ future careers.
Every year, we admit around 50 to 53 students. We give equal importance to their overall development. The fully complies with child protection regulations and provides various facilities like a well-equipped computer lab, library, and e-learning setup. We also prepare students for state and national level sports tournaments, provide coaching in English, math, and science, and organize training programs and workshops for personality development.
Thanks to these efforts, many students have achieved their dreams and goals. 11 students have become engineers, 3 have become Doctors, and 6 have become Professors. 64 students have secured employment in the public sector, while 535 have found jobs in the private sector. Additionally, 44 students have started their own businesses. The remaining students are continuing their education at the degree, master’s degree, and schooling levels. This enables them to live a life of dignity and self-respect. Through our services, these students are making a remarkable contribution to building our nation based on the principles of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.
We have received valuable support and partnership from Karuna Trust UK and the Social Welfare Department of Maharashtra over the years.
